I saw this on the jealous curator and fell in love! This idea from Irina Werning is so clever and absolutely laugh out loud funny! Amazing how she is able to capture, not only almost the exact background and quality of the old photos but also the very slight slight nuances in expression, angle of the bodies etc. Who doesn't love old photographs?? .. and how many times have I looked at baby photos of my husband and said.. "you make that expression now!" lol

The World According to Concrete

So my studio professor asked us to go to the store and buy a book on Architecture or Interior design that really spoke to us. It had to be a specific firm and it had to be something we would then refer to throughout the semester for inspiration in our own design.

So .. I went to Strand in Union Square and was pleased to have found a gem.

I am now absolutely obsessed with this Amsterdam based design firm. Their work is minimal yet absurd or maybe conceptual yet literal or "concrete". To say the least .. amazing and inspiring.

The clients for this pharmacy were open as far as design.. they said "You can do anything .. all we need are drawers to put the prescriptions in." Well Concrete went literal and did just that.. Love it!

Who said libraries were boring?? Not Concrete.

I can't get over how cool this concept is.. this place is called the supperclub .. basically it is a club and a dining experience. Very avant-garde. I love this room because .. well it is basically a big comfy pit with pillows where you sit down and dine and probably fall asleep after.. so interesting.. what a unique experience this must be..

Had to throw this in. I love all white.. there is just something so refreshing about it. Love the dark floors and the products really sing on the shelves.

This is during fashion week in Amsterdam .. in a venue .. Concrete created these lovely sheer curtains to house all the different lines being showcased. Such a simple concept yet so strong and effective.

Now this is a hotel I hope at some point in my life I will have enough money to stay in. I cannot get over the lighting and that pool...there are no words..

A little Hollywood glam at a cocktail bar.. again the lighting.. everything just glistens..

I seriously wanted to post every picture on their site but I got tired. So exciting and inspiring. I am excited to use them as my inspiration this semester!! Cheers!!

Ok..this heat is enough already. I have had enough! So I am taking the next plane down to Argentina and ambushing this house and hopping in this pretty awesome pool (ok.. in my dreams.. but still..)..

I am a little speechless... this whole house is absolutely amazing. I will even admit that I am not usually in love with modern architecture as it can be a little cold .. but hey .. I don't know about you but lately I think I will take cold!! This house is just amazing, genius and impeccably designed..

Ain't your Grandma's cottage

I hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend as much as I did. We drove upstate to see the hubby's side of the family and had lots of fun in the sun in my sister-in-law's pool!.. Food, drink and pool fun surrounded by amazing family and friends equals a pretty great weekend! :)

Anyway.. we got back this afternoon and I decided to turn on HGTV (a normal occurrence) and was pleased to see the new HGTV green home giveaway! The house is in Plymouth, MA this year (I was so excited as this is the next town over from where I grew up). I LOVE the house too!! It's so rustic and New England but it has such a great touches of funk and whimsy!! They put such a great spin on cape cod cottage charm by adding splashes of bright colors and lots of little fun touches. The whole crew who made this house happen did a really great job! Although I especially love the decorator .. Linda Woodrum!!

So my professor this semester in studio is so great! I couldn't have asked for better.. she is probably the most accessible professor I have had so far. One time, I even went over my plan with her on a Saturday and every time I e-mail her she e-mails me back that day.

I really love the advice she has given me while working on this current project. I have gotten some really perfect sources. She also recommended me check out the work of designer Eve Robinson for some inspiration! Wow! So glad she did! This is exactly what I love. Mostly neutrals with just pops of fresh color! Gorgeous! Love it!

Some great friends of mine got married over the summer. Their photographer was Erkan Barin out of Boston! I just love the play on light and color he uses in all of his photos. It is truly beautiful! The photos he did for Mari and Mike's wedding really capture their personalities to a tee! They both love the outdoors and are so playful and cute with one another and I just love that their photos really portray that! So refreshing.. and sooo much better then those typical .. 'lets pose with champagne glasses and look really stiff and weird' photos.. yes I think these are how wedding photos should be.. ha ..actually they almost look like they ran away from the wedding .. love it!

Luli Sanchez's hand painted textile designs have been sold at places like Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, and Bloomingdales. Pretty impressive.. but is it really any surprise ..?.. they are beautiful! Just thought I would share.. enjoy. :)

I think this one she may have been inspired by fireworks.. or on a second look..maybe dandelions..

To me..this one looks like those rings your coffee cup makes .. but it would have to be different color coffees..;)

This looks like a watercolor painting.. hmm ..maybe colorful asprin .. love it ha!

I have a confession to make ..I hate wreaths! I guess I have just always thought of them as being so 'grandma' and too 'country' .. that is until I just found this seller on Etsy!!!!

I think this woman may have changed my entire outlook on wreaths! I don't know who you are lady.. but I sure like your wreaths and I will be buying a few soon!! (hmm maybe holiday gifts) :)

This one is made from real fall leaves that are preserved so that they keep their beautiful color.

She also makes these really neat birch items. They make me want to move more north. I LOVE birch trees. Too cute.

So if any of you are looking for something interesting to do this weekend, I would STRONGLY suggest you do something cultural like hop on over to MOMA and like check out the Ron Arad exhibit (That is if your in the mood for something like that). It is truly amazing (I must say)!!

Ron Arad is famous for his "interdisciplinary and no-disciplinary approach to design." Basically he does it all.. architecture, furniture design, graphic design, sculpture... It is so so cool! Not only did he design the entire structure the exhibit was held in .. which was this really gigantic free flowing form of chrome with little cubbies to house all of his amazing free form chrome and resin furniture, his approach to design is truly inspirational.. Really! I can say the man is a true genuis (and if you have read my blog at all .. you may even have noticed that chrome, and plastics are not really my thing at all..but this is truly on another level)! Go see it! You will feel like you are on another planet.. like mars :)

In the above photo .. do you see that chandelier.. well.. if you send a text to it.. it will spin out a marquee of your text. Pretty nifty. I have no idea how this stuff works (like I said.. the man is a genius)!?

Such great environments to create and be inspired by!! They make me excited and motivated just looking at them :)

Actually, I also do really love the way the office I work in is designed. It's here (sorry ..website in flash, couldn't upload pics)!! While it gets soo hectic at work at times, I really think it is the serene design of our office that keeps us all in check .. designed by Interior Designer Eric Hilton who works with us as well!

Hello again.

I know it has been a very long time since I have last posted.... but I have excuses .. I swear!.. soo I decided to continue with design school full-time at FIT!! It has been going great so far!! I have been learning so much and ..while it is a LOT of work and hours spent.. I thoroughly feel excited and optimistic about every project.. which is a great feeling (I must say)! In addition to this.. I have met some really amazing and inspiring young ladies in my classes..it's so great to have camaraderie while in such a rigorous program... and the people I have met are fantastic and soo much fun!

I am also still working part-time at the textile company 20 hours a week -- so in other words.. this is the reason for my lack of posts!! Sorry :-(. My poor poor neglected blog!!! I do miss it and my readers.. or hopefully you are still out there. I will say though.. I have surey been reading a lot of your blogs so .. have not been totally out of the loop.. maybe this week I will post a blog highlight post from some of the inspiring things I have seen from you all lately.. hmm.. that would be fun :)..

Anyway... I have recently found a new textile company that is actually in my building - at the D&D where I work. I have yet to visit.. but I will DEFINITELY have to stop by and take a look - see!! Their website is g-o-r-g-e-o-u-s!! Enjoy!!

Rustic Shimmer HEALS

I think adding some shine and glimmer to a room can add so much depth and sophistication. The trick is to make sure it doesn't look 'gaudy' or the type of place where you feel like you can't put your feet up and relax. Lately, I have come to adore metallic linens and leathers. They still have that rustic feel to them but have an added shimmer to dress up a space. This site I found - Heals - based in the UK has some great accessories!

Katie Leede is a sought after designer in Los Angeles. Her work is inspired by ethnic prints with a bohemian appeal.

.. and now she has launched her very own fabric line!!!

It is quite apparent her Egyptian influence in each design and each design is very unique and thoughtful. The colors are beautiful and soft yet interesting. I love imagining the possibilities... They can be dressed up with velvets or be very casual and bohemian with distressed antiques.

Immediately, I was impressed with this designer's website and portfolio. His choice of uniquely shaped rustic style furniture is so appealing. It seems he uses a lot of rust or he may just happen to have clients who like the color rust. It's a great color I must say.. earthy yet still pops and very gender neutral. Anthony Cochran 's work is certainly inspiring.

Amanda Nisbet's Fun Luxury

I really think, anyone in this industry or at least interested in Interior Design should know Amanda Nisbet's work!! Personally, I just love it. She is able to create a feeling of true elegance and luxury while staying fun and fresh! She uses the best colors and lots of them!!

Such great juxtapositions.

I just love this color green in the photo below. This happens to be the color of my hallway .. the color looks even better I might add with the super shiny finish and that rug that is simply to die for!

Amazing how much colors she uses without looking "Disneyland". Fun and fresh yet grown up.

I love this room below. She has such a great eye for contrast and variety. This little girls room is so pretty yet she adds such an edgy twist with masculine details such as the chair.

This stool is an example of one of her geometric patterns that will be included in the line. Soon to be available at Holland and Sherry.

So I was browsing Pointclickhome and I found this absolutely fabulous dresser. I just love it! How unique and awesome is this!!??

What is absolutely in sane though, is that this is something so doable as a do-it-yourself project. I think any carpenter or anyone with beginner woodworking skills could do this .. Shhh.. sorry BergdorfGoodman.com, I mean I know you want everyone to shell out the $10,500 for this piece and it is fabulous .. but they are drawers stacked on top of each other -- it is cool .. but this is carpentry 101 ..I think .. I mean I am no carpenter but it looks really buildable and I love the idea of the different hardware all over it -- very bohemian! Just an idea..

My new favorite design on anything right now is Faux bois (meaning false wood)!! I am thinking this must be a new trend as I am seeing a LOT of it lately! I love it because it is a little quirky and fun but it is also a pattern that can basically be blended with any other pattern due to the fact that it is a false 'wood' pattern!!

Please tell me I am not the only nerd that really really wants one of these!!!

I have a reason though .. it's mainly because it is so hard to read books on the train .. I mean with one hand holding the pole, the other hand has to be able to hold the book up and hold the book open ... and with hard covers and my weak wrists, this is close to impossible!

The only down-side is -- they are $359 beans.. but.. maybe they will go down in price soon .. ?.. or maybe ..when the books are only $9.00 a pop and you can download them in 60 seconds it might pay for itself..?

What is cool is.. it is just like reading on paper not like a computer screen at all so you can read it in sunlight and ..it saves trees :-) ...

..and they also have really cute accessories..

...hmmmm...?.. Is it really worth the money?? Will I read more.. do I read enough.. ? I guess I am just hoping someone will give me one as a present. ha

Hello everyone!!!! So I took a little break from blogging for a while... I wish I had a better excuse like.. I took a trip to Somalia to feed starving children for a month ..or I was traveling the coast of Europe looking for relatives.. but.. I really have just been really busy! I had finals and work and weekends have been full if not with homework, with other stuff...

This semester in school, I did some projects using split complementary color schemes. I think as of right now, my absolute favorite color scheme is red, yellow-green and blue-green! It is so fresh and pretty and poppy and fun. I think the trick is to make sure to use mostly the calming blue-green color, with some yellow-green and just some pops of red!

I love how Katie Ridder uses this in her work a lot..

Bilhuber is an great and highly respected designer here in New York.

At Bilhuber, their style is very traditional and sleek with modern accents. I love the first photo with all the warm neutrals with the pops of yellow. Just another amazing designer we can all draw inspiration from.

As some of you may know, I work at a fabric company and I am studying interior design. Sometimes when we get new clients (or clients that are new to me) who order products we carry that I personally love, I like to look up their websites to see what kind of work they do..

I just LOVE this new designer I have discovered!! Her name is Carla Lane and her company is called Carla Lane's Interiors. I love that she uses a spin on traditional design (this is my favorite) and that her designs are so so accessible. I really think it says a lot about a designer if they are able to rely on their creativity and not just really high-end things. I too see some Katie Ridder influence in her work (one of my favorite designers) :)

But it's getting a little closer... I do apologize for the long absence lately. School and work are both killing me. What in the heck was I thinkin'..?..it is hard to work full time and take two studio classes at night!! lol.. and one being drafting ugh..but I do love it ..that I can't deny ;).. other.. than that..things seem to be going ok... the hubby and I are both getting pay checks..which is unfortunately not true for many people we know in this crazy economy. So.. grateful we are...however this winter just seems like it is going on forever..it's so darn cold!!!

By far, he was my favorite contestant on the show and what makes me like him even more is I actually work with people who used to work with him at Nathan Egan and they all say he is the nicest most well-liked person they have ever met!!

There are sooo many wallpaper lines out there...but what I like about Walnut Wallpaper is that they not only offer a great selection of unique and designer wallpapers, they even give instructions about how to order. This is great for those who are not interior designers and can't afford to hire one, because everyone is open and welcome to pick out samples and purchase whatever they like. They also offer a great selection of vintage papers.

I just love this idea MetroSofa has conjured up!!

Since they have about 400 chair and sofa frames and about 1000 fabrics, it allows you to be very creative and basically create your own custom piece of furniture without having to go through all the trouble with shopping around for second hand pieces, finding fabric sources and then finding an upholsterer.

They also have many floor models to choose from which you can buy right off the floor --prices range from $399 to $1899!!

I just love the juxtaposition they create using modern fabrics with traditional frames!

The best thing is they are green! All of their frames are either recycled from antiques or made from recyclable materials along with all of their paint and fabrics!!

Ever since I paid a visit to Portland, Maine on a family trip back when I was about 15..it will always be, in my mind, a unique place of rustic beauty and artistic inspiration. I remember all of the little shops filled with hand blown glass, and paintings by local artists. Portland, Maine is truly a place for the creative to share ideas amongst the backdrop of the natural Maine beauty that surrounds. Truly, it has to be one of my favorite places I have visited. I would love to go back there very soon..

Anyway.. when I discovered Angela Adams' site I was so excited to discover she was from Maine! Her shop in downtown Portland.. looks so interesting. What caught my eye the most, is her amazing wool rugs. They are all hand-tufted, unique and happy. It is very obvious they were inspired by Portland, Maine's relaxed creative atmosphere.

Ok.. so one of my New Years resolutions was to try to read more books -- not blogs or magazines but good old fashioned books w/o pics (I know crazy idea! ..What am I thinking..?). I am so very ashamed to say this, but I have not read a book in well .....?.. hmm ..?.. lets just say ... if knowledge is power, I should not be feeling at all powerful right now..

Anyway, I have a few books in my possession that I have yet to read .. but I think a big goal of mine is to read the classics..(you know the books you were supposed to read in Junior High and High School..but really just read the Cliff's notes .. or was that just my lazy generation..?) Maybe I can get super ambitious and try out some Shakespeare and some Greek Myths as well....hmm..baby steps ..

Anyway.. to help me or any of you out there who might be book readers stay stylish while reading..I did some research and have found some pretty neato bookmarks..

Well -- I really hope everyone has enjoyed the holiday season (whatever you may celebrate)!!! Christmas was very nice, but hectic..the weekend before we celebrated with my family in Massachusetts, and on Christmas Eve and Christmas, we celebrated with the hubby's fam. So actually, it worked out beautifully and we got to see everyone which was nice.

This year for New Years we decided to keep it very low key- with the weather and our bank accounts suffering due to the recession and all ..but we had a lovely time and will be having a few close friends over tonight..probably to drink beer, wine and to play some Wii Guitar Hero (does anyone have this ..?..we are totally addicted and I must say I am mighty proud of myself ..I can play 4 notes now on the bass)..

Night Owl Paper Goods..has probably the coolest holiday cards I have ever seen!! They are made out of wood..and some are just made to look like wood..but are definitely equally as cool and different.
